BRONISLAW MALINOWSKI – THE ANTHROPOLOGIST’ MYTH OF ETERNAL RETURN OR THE OTHER AMONG OTHERS
Abstract
What have postmodern anthropologists discovered in Malinowski? Why Malinowski continues to be interesting to anthropologists today? What is the reason for this unfading curiosity concerning his personality and his anthropological scientific heritage? It seems that this incessant interest had established him as a professional “myth of the eternal return” for anthropologists. The article tries to give an answer to these questions and to make Malinowski’s personality and his scientific works better known to Bulgarian readers. What Malinowski has left us in his empirical search for universal traits of human nature has been the repudiation of unverified assumptions and generalizations, and the making of the different and distant Others exotic.
