Shterio Shterev
Abstract:
The current article aims to partially present and analyze basic processes related to the preservation and transmission of family memory, personal and collective histories of the Bulgarian refugees from Aegean Macedonia. On this occasion, the attention is focused on the various forms of consolidation through collective and individual performances that were mentioned by respondents during the field research carried out mainly in the city of Gotse Delchev and its surrounding areas. In the text, the family is presented as a basic and natural unit for the transmission of knowledge and history between its elderly and younger members. The forms of commemorative initiatives, cultural interactions, and the efforts to preserve the heritage patterns are considered as a reflex of the collective memory and identity.
