Abstract: The text presents a personal narrative concerning a scientific trip of the Bulgarian folklorist Radost Ivanova to the USA during the Cold War in 1978. The author presents her meetings with leading American folklorists such as Richard Dorson, Alan Dundes, Dan Ben Amos, Linda Degh, and others. In the text, the atmosphere in the most prestigious centers of American folkloristic is lively.
