Abstract
Proms are among the least studied topics by Bulgarian ethnologists and folklorists. The article traces the origins and development of proms in a small village near Sofia. It is an illustrative example of the regime’s success in the 1960s due to the increased influx of incoming residents linked with the principal livelihoods – mining and metallurgy. A newly established high school, young teachers and students set forth the tradition of celebrating the event.
Keywords: prom, high school graduates, sending graduates, 60s of the 20th century
