Abstract:
The article reveals correlations between the concept of the embodied mind, a key tenet in cognitive science, and the anthropological, bodily character of notions of the world in traditional culture. The different reflections of the CENTER – PERIPHERY and UP – DOWN image schemas in a number of Bulgarian folk fairy tales and one Turkish vеrsion of the AT 450 Sister and Brother tale-type form the cornerstone of the study. It is argued that the abovementioned image schemes realized in the respective folk narratives tightly correlate with the structure of the domestic space in the traditional culture notions of Eastern Slavs and Bulgarians and their rituals related with the construction of a new home. Also, a number of conceptual metaphors reflected in the studied fairy tales such as DESIRE FOR POWER IS HUNGER, ACCEPTING IS SWALLOWING/EATING and others have been analyzed.
