Abstract
The article presents the scientific results of ethnographic research regarding the connection between tourism and protected areas and zones within the context of local development. The text is based on the author’s fieldwork in Coastal Dobrudzha – the village of Balgarevo, Kavarna municipality. For the purposes of the text, two cases of business ventures in tourism are presented. Both entrepreneurs offer not only bed and breakfast, but also attractions and “experiences”, therefore, their development strategies are focused on opportunities coming from natural features of the region. In this context, some of the local issues and conflicts regarding the perceptions and attitudes of various stakeholders towards the protected natural sites in the vicinity of the village are addressed. The benefits, deficits, and obstacles that conservation regimes create, as well as their role in the local economy development and the improvement of the conditions of life, are analyzed.
