Anthropology and AI
That artificial intelligence signifies a fundamental change for humanity is taken almost as an axiom. But what exactly is this change? Where does it begin, and how far will it extend? The anthropological perspective, which places particular emphasis on human experience, is not unexpected in the context of the rise and use of artificial intelligence – it is, in fact, a necessary and even indispensable perspective.
The significance and impact of artificial intelligence are not solely matters for information technologies but, above all, for the humanities and the social sciences.
Almost two years after the launch (November 2022) and the rapid spread of artificial intelligence based on language models for mass use – such as ChatGPT – we extend an invitation to authors from all fields of cultural studies who would like to contribute to a special issue of АНТРОПОЛОГИЯ/АNTHROPOLOGY (Journal for Sociocultural Anthropology) dedicated to the anthropology of artificial intelligence.
