Abstract
This contribution is focused on one relatively new field in cultural anthropology – the New Age studies. Being so new, it is difficult for researchers to define and stabilize New Age as a concept in order to construct their theoretical framework. This paper aims at offering possible periodization due to the meaningful contexts that have had an impact on its appearance and development nowadays. These contexts, linked to the socio-cultural climate, are tackled from the end of the XIX century and include historical events and facts, socio-cultural movements and dynamics, political changes, and others. It is amongst the first academic attempts at ‘catching the phenomenon’ in postmodernity and introduces the personal views of the author about the ways for stabilization and working with this complicated and multilayered concept.
